SUMMARY: A saint named ‘Indrapuree’, who was deftly condemning all philosophies/schools of thought, with a desire to win the debate, questioned Lord Sri Madhwacharyaru “Can you establish and prove that actions with spiritual awareness alone is the way towards salvation?”

This is another incident that occurred in Kashi. Indrapuri was a saint, who was denying that bliss in salvation is ensured only by knowledge-based actions.

Indrapuri was Amarendrapuri, according to Vishwapati Teertheeya.

SUMMARY: When reverend Sri Madhwacharyaru established and proved it, rendered without an appropriate counter explanation, wicked minded saint sought to know the meaning of ‘knowledge’. Sri Madhwaru then replied, “If at all you possessed some knowledge, you would have grasped its meaning yourself. Otherwise, there is no answer to your question,” and defeated him.

Sri Madhwacharyaru provided several references to show that knowledge driven acts alone give access to bliss in Moksha or salvation. Salvation is otherwise known as realisation of the truth, which is obtained through a wide spectrum of sources. Bhava Prakashika explains: “JnAnapadArTham pruchChantam prati BhagavAnUchE – twam yEna kEnajjnAnEna sahitO na vA| ‘JnAnyasi’ iti vadasi chEt jnAnAngeekAriNA twayA sa jnAnapadArthO jnAta yEva| NEti vadasi chEt sarvajnAnarahitasya tava prashnashabdAnAm tadwiShyANAm chArThAnAmajnAnAt prashna yEva na GhaTEta||
