SUMMARY: Oh Lord of Kancheepura, Sri Varadaraja, I will not plead with you for
wealth or similar trivial affluence. But, I plead with you that give me thyself as you
are superior than the entire animate and inanimate universe.
Perhaps Sri Vadirajaru is expressing dissent to the common belief that Lord Varadaraja of Kanchipuram is more popular for meeting the demands of devotees for worldly pleasure, comfort and luxury. Sri Vadirajaru is asking the Lord to ‘give’ in’ himself into him, Sri Vadirajaru. By giving himself to Sri Vadirajaru, Lord Varadaraja could disprove the common contention.

SUMMARY:  This consort of Goddess Lakshmi, Sri Varadaraja, is expressing the fact that he fulfills the desires of devotees; he gets worshipped by Lord Brahma and other deities; that he is the recipient of all offerings done in sacrifices; that he is surrounded by the Brahmins and their Agraharas or their residential apartments and he, who emerged out of the sacrificial fire in the sacrifice performed by Lord Brahma.
At present, Kanchipuram is on the banks of Palar River in Tamil Nadu.
Historically, Kanchipuram is said to be most ancient city. Precisely, it is believed to have been built in 2nd Century. It was the capital of Cholas and Pallavas. Later, it was a very important city during the Vijaynagar period of 15th to 17th century. It was conquered by Muslim conquerors and subsequently it was under the British-ruled India before getting usurped by the French. Kanchipuram was perhaps one of the most important centres of learning and a distinct pilgrimage for Jains, Buddhists, Shaivites and Vaishnavites as the temples dedicated to all religious faiths are found in this city.
Sri Varadaraja temple is believed to have been built in about the end of 17th century. However, the greenstone sculptural extravaganza depicting Yoginis dates back to 9th and 10th century.
