SUMMARY: May three-eyed Lord Eshwara residing in Vruddhachala, where he is known as Sadyojata, instantly enhance the depth of my spiritual knowledge.

By employing the term Trinetra, a name derived due to the fact that Lord Eshwara has three eyes, Sri Vadirajaru has appealed to Lord Eshwara to open his third to effectively enhance his spiritual knowledge; by employing the word “Achalavasi”, which is referred to the unshakable hillock on which Lord Eshwara resides in this place, Sri Vadirajaru has appealed to the Lord that whatever knowledge the Lord is imparting to him should be unshakable, rock-solid and eternal; with another word “Vruddhachala” also, Sri Vadirajaru requests Lord Eshwara that the spiritual knowledge imbibed by him with the grace of Lord Rudra should remain permanently, without any room for confusion or variation or deviation.

SUMMARY: I salute with folded hands, Oh Lord Shiva, who destroys the desires of bad (unrighteous) or diabolic people; who removes the troubles of devotees; who killed demon Tripurasura (Puravairi) and is an epitome of welfare and wellbeing.

It is believed that a Rishi named Vibheeshata did penance here in the name of Lord Rudra, who appeared there and blessed the Rishi.

The temple is very close to the Tiruchinappalli Railway Station. In fact, Villupuram is known for several Shiva Temples. There are mammoth temples dedicated to Srirama, Narasihma and other gods too.

Historically, many temples were probably renovated by Raja Raja Chola of the Chola dynasty.

There is no clarity on the image of the temple of Sri Vruddhachaleshwara. If someone can provide it, I will be highly obliged.
