SUMMARY: Salutation to Lord Shiva, who is the
overlord of Moon; he is fashioned by the white ash he is wearing; he is shining
in the loving heart of Goddess Parvati and he is the reason for the glorious
history of Bidirahalli, which has been made sacred by the cool breeze that
blows from across Tunga River.
Bidirahalli is in Mundaragi taluk of Dharwad.
Located at about 20 miles from Mudaragi on the banks of Tungabhadra River, this
Bidirahalli has earned the name of Venupalli because of the existence of an
ancient temple dedicated to Lord Venugolpala. Apart from the holy Ashwattha
Tree, there are the feet of Lord Vishnu and a temple dedicated to Lord
Someshwara. Another notable spot here is Yadavaryakatte. It is said that
distinguished commentator Srinivasa Tirtharu accepted sainthood and discarded
his corporal body in this place. A Brindavan of Srinivasa Tirtharu can also be
seen here.
