SUMMARY: In the distant past, he incarnated in the form of Matsya or giant Fish, killed the enemy of the virtuous, adamant and an ancient demon called Hayagreeva, who had stolen the Vedas, and handed over all the four Vedas to four-faced Lord Brahma.
Name of the demon was Madhu. He was a very ancient demon and a proven enemy of good people. Lord Hari, who had earlier incarnated as a Giant Fish called Matsya, once again incarnated as Hayagreeva, a form in which the Greeva or the neck and the face were reminiscent of the neck and face of Haya or Horse, chased the demon who was running away after snatching the Vedas from the hands of Lord Brahma, killed him, retrieved and returned the Four Vedas to Four-faced Brahma.
In this stanza, two incarnations of Lord Hari, as Matsya and Hayagreeva, have been cited. In both these forms, Lord Hari saved the Vedas. Matsya was an incarnation to preach the Puranas and Hayagreeva was meant to impart knowledge to humanity.
Beginning with this stanza, Sri Narayana Panditacharyaru describes various incarnations of Lord Hari uptill the fortiety stanza.
In his incarnation as Matsya, Sri Hari killed a demon named Hayagreeva and in his incarnation as Hayagreeva, Sri Hari killed a demon named Madhu.
“AnimiShEshwaraha” means a fish that never winked the eyes and it indicates the Matsya Rupa of Lord Hari. “HayamuKhEna vapuShA” means a demon in the form of Haya or horse, had become adamant and arrogant.

Sri Matsya incarnation is felicitated in the Dwadasha Stotra as follows:

SRI HARIKATHAMRUTASARA /
    74. Sri Hari is free from the fallacies of time and character/

SUMMARY: An ordinary person can learn certain hymns and medicines and stay in fire and water, without being affected by their qualities or characteristics. When Sri Hari wears the entire Brahmanda in his belly and stays in the heart of everyone, can the qualities or the fallacy of time, character and Krma relate to or affect him?
The word “Adhama” in this stanza means common as well as trivial or low. Several ordinary persons have displayed on this earth that they can stay in water or fire for hours together without being affected by these elements. They do not get wet nor get burnt. Such is the power of certain hymns which they learn, chant and inculcate certain extraordinary nature. When ordinary human beings can develop such power of sustenance, what can anyone say about the creator, preserver and destroyer this Brahmanda? He can do anything and everything without being affected by the good or bad impact. He cannot be “influenced” by anything he does nor can he attributed to have certain benign skills. He is the creator of skills. He is not affected by sorrow, happiness, dejection, disappointment, anger and so on. Duryodhana in Mahabharata commits several crimes, practices injustice and boasts of great power. Finally, when all his forces were precipitated by Pandavas under the sole grace of Lord Krishna, he thinks of transforming his body into diamond, stays under deep waters of Krishnadwaipayana Sarovar, chants the specific hymn. His stay was short lived but he could stay in the pond for quite a long period of time, unaffected by the quality of water.
Several worldly tricks have been given in Tantrasarasangraha, an anthology of magic and black magic skills.
    75. Completeness of the Omnipresence of Sri Hari/

SUMMARY: In each attribute of Sri Hari, there are infinite attributes. In any of his incarnations or forms, all the Lokas are hidden and intrinsic. He can assume a single form and occupy each and every object in the universe and be all-pervasive like the sky. He makes everything named differently and makes everything roam about anywhere and everywhere because he is brimming with knowledge and bliss, which are beyond imagination or description.
This phenomenon has been substantiated in all Scriptures including Bhagavata, Bharata Tatparya Nirnaya and Smrutis.
    76. Rareness of the Omnipresence of Sri Hari/

SUMMARY: Sri Hari is in everyone and he keeps everyone within himself. There is no other person like him. He is the father of Manmatha, the God of Romance. He knows the origin, the end and the middle of the creation of this universe. He has infinite qualities. He is a terror for Danavas or demons. This Lord, who is known as Sri Jagannathavitthala, emerged out of a pillar in response to a call by one of his devotees.
Narayanopanishat, Sutra Bhashya, Brahma Sutra and other holy Scriptures describe this Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience of Lord Hari.
In this stanza, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Sri Narasihma to kill Hiranyakashipu has been referred. Prahlada offered prayers and Lord Narasihma emerged out of a pillar in the palace of Hiranyakashipu, which bears testimony to the fact that the Lord is Sarvantaryami or Omnipresent.

SUMMARY: It is impossible for human beings to create a holy pond/lake that can match yhis Pushkara pond/lake because it has been created by none else but Lord Brahma; its holiness cannot be imagined better because Lord Vishnu has entered it, even though he always rests on the cosmic ocean of milk.
The Pushkara Kshetra is about 7 miles away from Ajmer on the Ahmedabad-Delhi Railway section of Western Railways. The significance of Pushkara has been mentioned in Padma Purana as well as in Vana Parva of Mahabharat. Pushkara is considered to be as great as Prayag Kshetra and they are both named as King of Holy Waters (Teertharaja).

This stanza is prescribed to be recited while having bath as names of five holiest waters/pilgrim centres are included in this. There are three ponds in Pushkara namely JyEShTha PuShkara, MaDhyapuShkara and KaniShThapuShkara in which Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahewshwara exist in that order. Temples dedicated to these three gods are existing here. An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Varaha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was destroyed by Muslim invaders and a new shrine was established there, according to historical evidences. Madhyapushkara is said to be very deep. Having bath in Madhyapushkara on full moon day in Karteeka Maas is considered to be very beneficial.
According to Holy Scriptures, a demon named Vajranabha was living before the creation of the universe. He used to kill all newborns and children. Lord Brahma once thought of performing a Yajna (Sacrifice). He went to the same spot in the navel of Lord Vishnu from where he had originated and submitted a lotus from his hand on Vajranabha due to which the demon died instantly. A pond originated at the place where the lotus fell and where the demon died. Pushkara means lotus and the pond created due to the fall of lotus thus came to be known as Pushkrateertha. Later, Sri Narayana came out of the nostril of Lord from in the form of Varaha and later entered this pond and disappeared from there. The three platforms for performing holy sacrifice or Yajnavedike were later transformed into three holy ponds. Sri Vadirajaru concluded his pilgrimage in the western side in this place as he turned towards the north from here.

SRI RAGHAVENDRA SWAMY’S SRI RAMACHARITRYA MANJARI (ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿರಚಿತ “ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯ ಮಂಜರಿ”)

Search for Seetha begins/

Sugreeva sent four large groups of Monkeys, bears and other animals to all directions and sub-directions. In most of the versions of Ramayana, including Sri Valmeeki Ramayana, the directions in which the monkey groups were asked to search for Seetha has been described briefly. However, the monkeys were instructed by Sugreeva to visit all eight directions, the cardinal as well as sub directions and also the upper and underworlds such as Kailas and Patal.
Sri Hanuman meets Seetha Devi
71. ATha SeethAm vichitya AyAta SreemadDhamadgiram samanushrutya – Sri Hanuman, who went in South direction, found Seetha Devi, returned and apprised Srirama about everything, including the strength and weakness of Ravana and his armed forces. This particular statement is the pulse of the whole story of Ramayana. It is the concluding part of Kishkindha Kanda, Sundarakanda and the prelude to Yuddha Kanda.
Word “Vichitya” indicates Sri Narayana since “chiti” implies knowledge. “Vi” means VishiShTa or Special and so “Vichitya” means the most special, superhuman and unimaginable knowledge which Sri Narayana alone can be attributed with. Commentators state that “Vichitya” also implies incomparable purity.
Hanuman puts Monkeys to a test
Sri Hanuman tells his fellow beings: “Oh Monkeys! We have been searching for Seetha Devi for a very long time now. Yet our efforts have become futile as we have not been able to find Seetha, so far. It is now up to all of us to plan our next move.”
This dialogue of Sri Hanuman may outwardly mean that more than anyone else, Sri Hanuman was exhausted. However, what Hanuman wanted to do was to give a wakeup call to his group. All the monkeys, by that time, were literally dejected and exhausted. They were hungry and thirsty. They started searching more deeply in Vindhya Mountains and the forests around. They were afraid of the anger of Sugreeva and worried. They continued to search for Seetha Devi due to their sheer devotion for Srirama.
Cave Rukshabila
The monkeys suddenly saw different types of birds and deer coming out of a cave. They sensed that there might be some water source and decided to quench their thirst and relax for a while. They were surprised to see the vast space within that cave, which was, much to their agony and surprise, shrunk in utter darkness. Holding one another by hand and groping in that pitch dark, serene and silent interior of that cave, the monkeys suddenly recalled Rama. As soon as they pronounced the name of Rama, the darkness vanished and they could see a dense and enthralling forest in that sprawling cave. All the objects in that cave were made of gold. They also saw a young and charming woman in that cave. Sri Hanuman questioned her: “ Oh great woman, who are you? We believe that you have subdued several saints and Munis with the power of your penance. Everythin, the sofas and other luxury items appear to have been made of gold. We are engaged in the task of searching for Seetha Devi, the consort of Dasharatha’s son Srirama. We are all servants of Sugreeva.”
The woman replied: “I am the daughter of a Manu called Merusavarni and my name is Swayamprabhe. Long time ago, Mayasura created this cave and named it as “Rukshabila” and decorated it with everything. He was living in this cave. I am a friend of “Hema” and at present, I am doing penance in this cave. Inadvertently you have entered this cave and my Ashram. You appear to
be fully exhausted. I will give you fruits, roots and other food.” Accordingly, she searched everyone there and offered to take them out of the cave. She, first, asked all the monkeys to close their eyes and then led them all out of the cave. The monkeys were very much frightened to notice that the deadline fixed by Sugreeva for finding out Seetha Devi had expired.

SUMMARY: This Sri Narayana has created a very large universe of Great Principle (Mahat Tattwa) from nature carrying three principal qualities of Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas; from that universe, he created three types of self-boasting or ego-maniac principles of Vaikarika, Taijasa and Tamasa and from it he created deities, sensory organs and five elements, respectively and then he created the circular galaxy of Brahmanda as well as other worlds.
Ten deities in-charge of equal number of organs were created from the emotion called “Vaikarika Ahankara” or the “over-confidence of self”; another set of ten organs were created with “Taijasa Ahankara”, which is a shade different from the “Vaikarika Ahankara” but very much related to the ego, the pride and selfishness. From “Tamasa Ahankara”, an emotion that is mixed with ego, over-confidence and cruelty, the elements such as sky and others were created by the Lord.
All these are known as principles or attributes, which were included in the Brahmanda in which fourteen worlds or Lokas have been created.

SUMMARY: This very Narayana always creates Brahma, Vayu, GaruDa, Rudra, Indra and all other gods, their subservients Gandharvas, the humans and demons with utmost ease. He preserves them carefully, destroys them and finally settles them in their predetermined spots or state.
After creating everything and every being, the Lord gives salvation or Moksha to good beings and Tamas to demons. This cycle of creation, preservation and destruction is continuous, non-stopping and unhindered.
