SUMMARY: The water in Tamraparni River should be drunk even by those seeking salvation or Moksha (Mumukshu) since even the pearl shell in this river grants salvation to persons bereft of knowledge falling on it.

Sri Vadirajaru is stating here that the touch of a pearl shell lying in Tamraparni River paves the path to salvation. People desirous of attaining salvation should compulsorily drink the Tamraparni waters.

The word “Patita” has several meanings. Basically, it means one who has fallen down; secondly, it means one who has surrendered; one who has lost everything in life; a destitute; downtrodden; one who has fallen to the ground from heaven or hell.

Literally, the word “Shukti” means pearl shell. Symbolically, shukti represents immobility or static or that which does not move around, does not progress. In philosophical interpretation, Shukti means one who has no spiritual knowledge.

In his exclusive work titled “Sri Tamraparni MahAtmyam”, Sri Vedavyasaru describes Tamraparni:

SmaraNAt darshanAt DhyanAt snAnAt pAnAdapi Dhruvam|

KarmavichChEdini sarvajantUnAm mOkShadAyinee||

Tamarparni River destroys sins and Karmas of those who remember her (SmaraNAt), who see her (DarshanAt), who meditates (DhyAnAt), who take bath in her and those who drink the waters (PAnAt). She bestows salvation too.

TAmra means Copper and Parni means shining. Therefore, The word TAmraparni is a derivative of Tamil word “Tamiraparani”, which means a maiden shining like Copper.

According to a legend, Goddess Adi Parashakti presents a garland to Goddess Parvati during the marriage of the latter with Lord Shiva. Later, Lord Shiva gave this garland to Sage Agastya. Immediately after coming in contact with Sage Agastya, the garland transformed into a charming young maiden, who was shining like Copper. The deities called the maiden as Tamiraparani.

Lord Shiva instructed Sage Agastya to travel southwards. Sage Agastya, his wife Lopamudra, along with Tamiraparani, reached Mount Malaya, where the presiding deity Malayeshwara happily adopted Tamiraparani/Tamraparni as his daughter. Adi Parashakti got Tamraparni married with Samudra Raja or the King of Oceans. Adi Parashakti then directed Tamraparni to become mighty and she obeyed.

Tamraparni divides into three tributaries or rivulets at the place of confluence with the Sea and these three rivulets are likened by Sri Vedavyasa to Rig Veda, Yajur Veda and Sama Veda. Sri Vedavyasa consecrated an idol of Tamraparni and also Lord Subrahmanya to protect her.

SUMMARY: Oh Srirama! You nipped the bud of sin that had set in due to the touch of a third person for Ahalya, the wife of Sage Gauthama and graced Ahalya; I worship your feet to get my heart purified; Will the same feet that erased the sin of Ahalya not cleanse the impurities of my mind? Similarly, will the same feet that restored the original form to Ahalya, who had become a stone, and bestowed upon her the spiritual awakening, not bless me with eternal meditation of those feet? I pray to the feet that had discarded the comfort and luxury of royal life and embraced the exile into the forest to get my heart and mind cleansed.

In this stanza, Sri Vadirajaru offers prayers to Srirama after seeing the remnants of a bridge that Lord Rama had got constructed from the monkeys.

SRI #RAMACHARITRYA #MANJARI

(ಶ್ರೀ #ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿರಚಿತ “#ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯ ಮಂಜರಿ) CONCLUSION

I am indeed very grateful and thankful to all those who have been reading Sri Ramacharitryamanjari in English. May Sri Ramachandra bless you all with long lives, full of happiness, peace and prosperity. In the following few lines hereunder, I wish to conclude the translation of this sacred work.

The Mularamayana or the original Ramayana is believed to be comprising of one hundred crore Shlokas and Sri Valmeeki, who first heard the story narrated by Sri Narada Muni and was also a contemporary of Srirama, has provided us with Sri Ramayana in 24,000 Shlokas. However, we get to know some exemplary acts of Srirama through Sri Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya of Sri Madhwacharyaru and Sangraha Ramayana, composed by Sri Narayana Panditaru.

Some of the interesting and subtle details of the acts of Srirama have come down to humanity through Sri Valmeeki Ramayana.

The sole purpose of translating this noble work into English is to reach it to people not able to read, write or even comprehensively comprehend Kannada and Sanskrit. Trust the translation will receive good response from the knowledgeable readers.

SUMMARY: Sri Madhwacharyaru, disciple of Sri Vedavyasaru, shone in the spiritual congregations with his spiritual discourses that were comprehensively eradicating the darkness of lack of knowledge, by getting respectfully complimented, honorably congratulated, devoutly surrendered by the debators of other schools of philosophy, like the Moon shines with his pleasant light during every Sharadritu.

This stanza deftly brings to fore the exemplary, astounding and all round knowledge of Sri Madhwacharyaru. He was able to summarily, critically evaluate other schools of thought and authoritatively assert the Madhwa Mata or the Dwaita Mata. The antagonists used to gleefully accept defeat, acknowledge the Dwaita philosophy of Hari Sarvottamatva and Vayu Jeevottamatva and saluting him with great passion, pleasure, compassion and submission.

The glory of his interpretation, clarification and sensible, logical presentation has been likened to the Moon Light.

SUMMARY: “The complete destruction, preservation, accompanied by the creation that takes place from time to time, is accomplished by the incomparable pledge of Parabrahma Vishnu, who is, significantly, the addressee of every syllable, word and speech, all the Vedas and Shastras, who is closely residing near every animate being, who is not at all bound by the time-specific, time-determined destruction and identified by a form that can only be sensed or perceived through knowledge.”

The gist of the various spiritual discourses has been explained in the next four stanzas by Sri Narayana Panditacharyaru.

Lord Vishnu is the addressee of all the Vedas and Shastras, Scriptures. He is Omnipresent and is not bound by the four types of destruction. His body or persona or personality is made up of knowledge and nothing else. He creates, preserves and destroys everything with sheer desire or pledge or will.

The philosophy explained in this stanza seems to be simple, outwardly. However, it has evoked different interpretations, explanations and description due to the depth, subtlity and criticality.
