SUMMARY: That Cloud, with the lightning of knowledge that makes all the directions shine, with the rain waters of this type of statements, made the trees of the pious and spirituous that were suffering from the heat of worldly life, fill with flowers and fruits.

In this stanza, Sri Narayanapanditacharyaru has likened the knowledge that Sri Madhwaru spread among the pious and righteous people by providing correct, authentic and perfect interpretation of the Shastras to the rains that the Clouds produce to make the trees, likened to the pious and the spirituous, produce flowers and fruits.

The word “SaPhalasumanaha” can be interpreted as “SaPhalasuchittam” and “PhalapuSpasahitam”.

“Avipallavam” means ‘without any obstacles’ as we

ll as ‘without any disturbance of mind’. Bhavaprakashika explains: “Avipallavam vipadO lavEnApi rahitamavigatapallavam cha|” {अविपल्लवं विपदॊ लवॆनापि रहितमविगतपल्लवं च।}

SUMMARY: Oh Lord Adikeshava, who is resting on Adishesha; whose face is reminiscent of the full moon during the Sharadritu; who is the husband of Goddess Lakshmi; who possesses eyes that are like the white lily; who is always untouched by all sorts of drawbacks or defects; who is infinite; who is the epitome of all that is good; who is the custodian of the Ocean and is in the form of the ocean, please be empathetic towards me.

This temple dedicated to Adikeshava is at Tiruvattar, which is about 23 miles from Shucheendra and about 20 miles from Nagarkoil. The statue of Sheshasayi Narayana in this temple is about 16 feet long. Only the face and chest of the Lord are seen from one door and the feet can be seen from the other door. Under the Adishesha, an Asura has been cramped down. The story behind this reads as follows:

Once, when Lord Brahma was  doing penance here, a demon came to him and begged for food. Lord Brahma told that demon to go to a banana plantation that was very close to him. The demon went there and started torturing the Rishis, who were doing penance there. As requested by the Rishis, Lord Narayana killed that demon. However, the demon requested Lord Narayana that his body (Narayana’s body) should always be lying on his (demon’s) body. Therefore, Lord Narayana placed Adi Shesha on the body of the demon and rested on Adi Shesha.

SUMMARY: This Ghrutamala River, which is capable of burning the forest of cruel sins and is always good at enhancing the fire-like knowledge, is shining gloriously.

This holy place is located at about 18 miles from Tiruvattar, on the banks of Tamraparni. It is located between Tiruvanantpur and Keshava Kshetra. There is a temple dedicated to a charming statue of Lord Sri Krishna. Sri Vadirajaru has described that river in this stanza.

SUMMARY: At a place called “Pashupe”, where a group of people appealed to him, Sri Madhwaru displayed his extraordinary singing skills and instantly created flowers and fruits there with his singing; what a miracle!

This was an incident that happened in Pashupe, where the arecanut and other plants had stopped yielding flowers or fruits and nuts for several years. As requested by the villagers, Sri Madhwaru instantly made all the plants to shine with flowers, fruits and nuts merely by displaying his singing skills.

A rare fact that owing to the request of the villagers of Pashupe, Sri Madhwaru wrote “Ganashastra”, a book on how to sing, is mentioned in Bhavaprakashike.

This GAnashastra laid the foundation for the Dasapantha, which is one of the most astounding and unknown facts about Sri Madhwaru.

Unfortunately, Ganashastra by Sri Madhwaru is not known to the present world. It is only recorded that he had produced such a work. Scholars are of the opinion that Sri Purandaradasaru, doyen of Carnatic devotional song composers might have secured it.

In Tattwapradeepa, the exemplary musical skills of Sri Madhwaru has been described in very clear terms:

In his AnuvyAKhyAna, Sri Madhwaru has stated that music can make plants and trees produce or yield flowers and fruits:

SUMMARY: One of the most prominent sages Agastya, who gulped the mighty Ocean which was prospering without any control, shall help us cross the Ocean of worldly life.

There is a hillock called Vyasaparvata in close proximity to Kanyakumari. Sri Vadirajaru is offering prayers to Sage Agastya in that Vyasaparvata. It may be recalled that Agastya had gulped the entire ocean in one take to teach the Ocean a lesson and control it. Therefore, Sri Vadirajaru is praying in this stanza that Sage Agastya may bless humanity to cross the ocean of worldly life with ease and comfort.

SUMMARY: Oh Lord, the presiding deity of Shucheendra Kshetra, you cannot become more powerful just because you purified Lord Indra; you may earn greatness by purifying my mind, which is not Indra.

There is a story behind this Shucheendra. It is said that Lord Indra, who was cursed by Sage Gauthama to become insane, got relieved from that curse at Shucheendra. Sri Vadirajaru seems to tell Shucheendra, a sacred place, that merely by clearing the sin of Indra, it (the pilgrimage) cannot assume to have become great. Indra is a deity and there is no greatness in clearing his sin or purifying him. However, the place can consider itself to be great after purifying the human minds, which cannot match Indra.

Shucheendra is about eight miles from Kanyakumari. It was here where Indra, who was cursed by Gauthama Maharishi for his misbehavior with Gauthama’s wife Ahalya, got relieved from that curse at Shucheendra. The name of the place is derived for clearing the sin of Indra. There is a large temple in this place dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Rudra and Brahma. It is said that that the statue of Hanumantha in this temple is among the largest statues of Hanumantha in India.
