SUMMARY: He killed a demon named “Shambooka”, who was an incarnation of demon called “Jangha”, who was doing penance by staying with his head down and legs up with the intention of attaining the position of Rudra, and made a Brahmin boy, who had died due to the crime committed by Shambooka, live.
Details: Once, an elderly Brahmin reached the entrance of Ayodhya with the corpse of his young son. Crying inconsolably, the elderly Brahmin said: “Oh my unfortunate son! This is the kingdom of Lord Rama where there is question of youngsters dying before the elders. It appears I have committed some serious crime in my previous birth. That is why, you have demised before me. Oh child, please wake up and speak a few sweet words and make your weeping mother happy. If you do not open your mouth now, I and your mother will end our lives to join you in the journey of no-return.”
“Srirama is the sole protector in all the three Lokas. Let him protect me too. None else is as kind as Srirama. Let that embodiment of kindness protect me.”
This appalling appeal of the Brahmin was heard by Narada, who was amidst many distinguished Munis.
Narada told Srirama: “Oh Lord Srirama, the Goddess of Dharma has four legs that are symbolic of pure penance, pure body, pure speech and pure mind, besides kindness and truthfulness. This Goddess of Dharma is in the form of a cow. Similarly, even the Goddess of Adharma has four legs. At the beginning of Kruta Yuga, the four legs are complete in every respect. At the end of Kruta Yuga, the leg symbolizing penance starts deteriorating and this is evident from the disturbance that those engaged in penance face. Similarly, during Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga, the other three legs start deteriorating and the legs of Adharma gain strength. This is evident from the fact that Brahmins indulge in non-Brahmin practices and none follows his or her traditional and cultural habits. Therefore, it is essential to identify the person who has deviated from his established cultural ethos and punish him. Otherwise, instances such as the one in front of us where a younger one is dead in front of an elderly person, start occurring frequently. It is pertinent now to identify the reason for the death of a young Brahmin boy even as his father is alive still.”
Srirama appreciated Narada for his analysis and ordered Lakshmana to console the Brahmin. Lakshmana pacified the lowing Brahmin. Srirama just remembered the Pushpak Airplane and it arrived. Srirama boarded the plane and launched a journey in that plane to visit every corner of his kingdom. Being omniscient and omnipresent, Srirama was aware of what was happening but pretended to be unaware of the activities happening around. After searching in the three directions of east, west and north, Srirama turned towards the south. He reached a pond near a mountain called “Shaivala”. There he saw a man lying upside down and doing penance. Srirama went close to that person and asked “Who are you?”
The person lying upside down replied: “I am a non-Brahmin. My name is Shambuka and I want to replace Lord Rudra and ascend his throne because anyone sitting on the seat of Rudra gets the power to kill everyone. Once I usurp the throne of Rudra, I will kill everyone and become the emperor of all the fourteen Lokas. I am doing the penance to usurp the position of Rudra.
A demon called Jangha did penance to impress upon Goddess Parvati with the desire to be alive till the term of Lord Brahma. He wanted to be the husband of Goddess Parvati. He also wanted to kill everyone and roam about with Goddess Parvati in all the Lokas. With these demands, Jangha was also doing penance standing upside down.
Srirama beheaded that demon with his sword. Indra and other deities came there and showered the flowers like the coral flower (Jatropa multifida) or Parijata on Srirama. Srirama then ordered Indra and other deities to make the Brahmin boy alive. The deities said that Shambuka was also doing penance with same desire. Shambuka was a non-Brahmin and the Brahmin boy would become alive soon after Shambuka died. Srirama again pretended as though he was unaware of this fact and as though he was unaware of the place where Shambuka was doing penance. After searching for Shambuka in a few places, Srirama found him and killed that demon too. After killing Shambuka, Srirama went to the Ashram of Sage Agastya. He was accompanied by all the deities. Sage Agastya worshipped Srirama and other deities, in accordance with their rank and file. The deities returned to their Lokas. Srirama spent a night in the Ashram of Agastya, as requested by the latter. Sage Agastya handed over an extraordinary necklace to Srirama. However, Srirama questioned Sage Agastya about the origin of that necklace.
The background of that necklace, as narrated by Sage Agastya to Srirama will be furnished in the next episode.

SUMMARY: Sri Poornaprajnaru, who was bewildering the world with his vibrant radiation, getting saluted by the people again and again, who had become very popular due to the astonishing glory he had achieved in spiritual debates and was the most beloved of Lord Sri Krishna, made the people very happy, each day. Just as he had made Dharmaraja in his previous incarnation as Bheemasena, Sri Madhwaru made Vasudevacharya (son of his Guru) perform a Yajna (Sacrifice).
It may be recalled that during Dwaparayuga, Lord Vayu incarnated as Bheemasena, killed Jarasandha and vanquished several other kings and ensured that his elder brother Yudhishthira perform Rajasuya Yajna, without any hurdle or obstacle. During his incarnation as Sri Poornaprajna, he defeated Maradittaya in a debate and paved the way for Vasudevacharya, son of his Guru, perform a Yajna.
Jarasandha, who had imbibed a portion of the divinity of Lord Rudra, was arrogant, adamant and tyrannical, was of the opinion that he was the only eligible person to perform any sacrifice. He had prevented all other kings of his era from performing any sacrifice. It was under such circumstances that Bheemasena, under the guidance and blessings of Lord Krishna, killed Jarasandha and his associate kings. This paved the way for Dharmaraya to perform the Rajasuya Yajna. Similarly, Sri Madhwaru defeated Maradittaya in a spiritual debate. Sri Madhwaru also condemned the twenty-one other philosophies and established Madhwa Philosophy.

SUMMARY: Perhaps with an intent to make Goddess Lakshmi, who is mostly residing elsewhere in the houses of devotees, his own, Lord Venkatesha, who has dark complexion that is reminiscent of dark clouds, is fulfilling the desires of his devotees again and again, each day, and is getting astonished by seeing the wealth of his devotees getting multiplied thousand folds and is residing eternally in the houses of those devotees.
Sri Vadirajaru appears to be wondering at the continuous enhancement of wealth in the houses of the devotees of Lord Venkatesha. His consort Goddess Lakshmi is in-charge of wealth. Lord Venkatesha continuously fulfills the desires of his devotees so that they may not care for the wealth in their houses. By adopting this method, Lord Venkatesha, Sri Vadirajaru says in this stanza, expects Goddess Lakshmi would come to him as she might not like being ignored by the devotees. However, Lord Venkatesha is surprised to notice that the wealth of his devotees, due to his grace and blessings, keeps increasing manifolds. Convinced that Goddess Lakshmi may not rejoin him, Lord Venkatesha shifts himself to the residences of his devotees. This is symbolically testified by the fact that the devotees always worship Lord Venkaesha along with Goddess Lakshmi in their houses, say Sri Vadirajaru.

SUMMARY: Lord Srinivasa rests on the mattress-like Aadi Shesha, the divine serpent; Lord Srinivasa makes the same Aadi Shesha into a hill and stands on it; Lord Srinivasa has made Aadi Shesha as his brother named Lakshmana during his incarnation as Rama and thus Aadi Shesha is the most ardent devotee of Sri Venkatesha.
The hill on which Lord Venkatesha is present is known as Venkatachala as well as Sheshachala. Sri Vadirajaru is explaining the reason for the hill being called as Sheshachala. Sri Adishesha, on whom Lord Narayana rests in the cosmic ocean of milk, is existing in the form of a hill on which Lord Venkatesha is now residing.

Sri Raghavendra Swamy Virachita SRI #RAMACHARITRYA #MANJARI (ಶ್ರೀ #ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿರಚಿತ “#ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯ ಮಂಜರಿ”)

Sri Raghavendra Swamy Virachita
SRI #RAMACHARITRYA #MANJARI
Sri Valmeeki continued the story of Mitrasaha:
“Twelve years elapsed and King Mitrasaha was relieved from the demon-hood. Demon Kinkara, who had entered his body, departed too. He got back the human-hood. He returned to his original place and governed the kingdom righteously. He tried to have physical contact with his wife, when the wife reminded him of the Brahmin’s curse. The king realized the reality and abstained from any contact with his wife. He also realized that he would be without a heir or successor. He requested Sage Vasishtha and got his wife conceive. She became pregnant but did not deliver for seven years. She then pounded her stomach with a stone after which a son was born. He was named “Ashmaka” since he was born after being hit by a stone. Ashmaka means ‘son of stone’. Mitrasaha handed over the charge of his kingdom to Ashmaka and came to this place (Ashram of Valmeeki). He did a fierce penance here and attained salvation. We are now living in a hermitage in which a descendant of your dynasty named Mitrasaha lived.” Valmeeki concluded the history of his Ashram.
Shatrughna, who was knowledgeable, became aware that Kusha and Lava, children of his brother Rama were born in the hermitage of Valmeeki and they sang the Ramayana story composed by Sri Valmeeki.
Shatrughna spent that night in the Ashram of Sri Valmeeki, woke up in the early hours of next dawn, completed his morning chorus, took permission of Sri Valmeeki and set off in northern direction. He reached the banks of Yamuna River and spent a night amidst the sages living there. From those sages, he came to know that Lavanasura had killed Mandhata and several other kings. Next morning, Shatrughna crossed Yamuna River, stood in front of the entrance of Madhuvana beholding his bow and arrows, ready to wage the war.
Lavanasura had gone out then and returned to Madhuvana by afternoon. He had brought with him one hundred corpses to eat. He saw Shatrughna and said: “Oh human, I have eaten thousands of human beings like you. Why have you come to my house to be eaten by me?”
“Do not bark like dogs, you demon. I am not one of those human beings you have eaten. I am the brother of Srirama, who killed Ravana without any effort. I have come here to kill you. Get ready for the battle,” Shatrughna vociferously replied to Lavanasura.
“Oh I see! You are the brother of that Rama who killed Ravana, who was like my brother. I wish to take revenge by killing the brother of Rama who killed my brother Ravana. Wait for a moment. I will return with my weaponry,” said Lavanasura.
“You Cheat! Do you want to escape without fighting? I will not leave you. It is my bounden duty to kill persons like you instantaneously.”
Enraged Lavanasura pulled out a tree and threw it towards Shatrughna, who cut it into pieces with his arrows. The war continued for some time. Once, Lavanasura hit Shatrughna with a Sal Tree and the latter lost consciousness. The sages were shocked and pitied. Shatrughna regained the consciousness after a while and became very furious. He took the arrow that Rama had given him, set it on the bow and pulled the string to release it. Flames of fire were oozing out of that arrow, even as people and sages around became anxious and frightened. Shatrughna shot the arrow at Lavanasura. The arrow killed Lavanasura, went to the underworld before returning to Rama’s quiver.
Valmeeki was very happy with the victory achieved by Shatrughna and hosted a very distinct party to the victor and his army. The soldiers heard the melodious rendition of the story of Ramayana and asked Shatrughna to enquire about the origin of that story and the related facts. Shatrughna was aware that after his departure from Ayodhya, Rama and Seetha Devi had been separated and that Kusha and Lava, children of Rama were delivered by Seetha Devi in the hermitage of Valmeeki, who had composed Sri Ramayana and had directed Kusha and Lava to sing the same. However, Shatrughna did not want to disclose this information to his soldiers. He told his soldiers:
“Valmeeki is a divine person and he possesses several mysterious qualities. Composing Ramayana and making the two children sing Ramayana is not an ordinary task. It is not proper to hurt Valmeeking by questioning him about the Ramayana.’
He repented for what had transpired in his absence and expressed grief with Rama, who pacified him by saying that everything was predetermined and inescapable.
