SUMMARY: This capital city known as Anegondi is extraordinary because in this place the elephants, which wore the globe-like philosophy of Sri Madhwaru, are aplenty and decorative.
This refers to the place where the most popular pilgrim for Madhwa community namely Navavrundavana exists. The Gajas or the elephants adoring the philosophy of Sri Madhwaru is believed to refer to some of the then acclaimed scholars of Madhwa Philosophy like Padmanabha Tirtharu and so on, who were often referred to as Ashta Diggajas or the Elephants which are bearing the Earth in eight directions.
Mythologically, Anegundi is believed to have been known as Kishkindha during Tretayuga. Kishkindha was the capital of Vali, who was killed by Rama, who made Sugreeva, the elder brother of Vali, as the king. The place is more poplar for being the birth place of Lord Hanumantha.
Anegundi or Anegondi in the local Kannada language means a pit of elephants. Historically, a tiny kingdom, which was to later expand into one of the richest and largest empires in the world history called Vijayanagar, was started in this place and it was the capital city of that kingdom. The remnants of a circular fort that still exist around Anegundi bears testimony for this fact. Anegundi is now on the opposite shores of Tungabhadra and hence connectivity is still a bit problematic issue.
The place is surrounded by a range of hills beside the river on one side. It is worth remembering this place on this auspicious occasion because the earth breaking ceremony for the long cherished dream of constructing a Srirama temple at the birth place of Srirama called Ayodhya is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2020. The day is more significant and auspicious for the fact that it was on the Dwiteeya of Shravana Masa Shukla Paksha in Varsha Ritu that Sri Raghavendra Swamy entered the Brindavan at Mantralayam.

An ascetic thrashed a dog with a club. The dog appealed to punish the ascetic. Accordingly, the ascetic was made in-charge of a temple called Kalanjara.
Once, a dog came crying and appealed: “Oh Rama! I have come to you because you are the protector of those who surrender to you. Please save me.” The dog was walking on two legs and had folded the two front legs as a symbol of salutation. Lakshmana saw the dog and questioned: “Who has frightened you in the kingdom of Srirama?” The dog replied “I will open my cup woes in front of Rama only”. Lakshmana informed Srirama about the plea of the dog. Later, Lakshmana took the dog in front of Srirama. The dog saluted Srirama and stood in front of him. Srirama said: “Shed any confusion or fear. You can tell me boldly, without any hesitation.” In the kingdom of Srirama all animals could speak. The dog started telling Rama in a calm tone:
“Oh Lord, I am born in a very low and abusive specie of Dog. None can count the qualities you possess. Anyone praising your qualities gets affluent. None has the capacity to completely praise or enumerate your qualities. The kindness you show for downtrodden is infinite. Please hear my plight. I have been severely thrashed with a club by a saint called Sarvarthasiddha, even though I have not wronged him in any manner. Please bless me with your kindness and justice.”
Srirama summoned Sarvarthasiddha to the royal court. Srirama discussed with his ministers about the punishment to be given to the saint. It was not that Srirama could not take a unilateral decision, especially since the matter was very trivial. The dog saw Rama discussing the matter with his ministers and elderly people. The dog suggested: “Oh Rama, you may appoint that saint as the chief priest of the temple known as Kalanjara. That will be the most appropriate punishment.”
Srirama installed the saint on the position of chief priest of that temple and sent him to the designated temple on an elephant. The saint joyously accepted the appointment and went away.
The Ministers were confused and shocked by this honor to the priest. They questioned Rama on the propriety of the punishment. Srirama then turned his face towards the dog and looked at it inquisitively. The dog, which remembered its previous birth, replied: “I was the priest in this temple. I got this birth as dog due to the atrocities and misdeeds committed by me as a priest. Therefore, I wanted this saint also commit the same sort of crime or sin and take birth as a dog in his next birth on earth.” The dog retired to Kashi to do penance. The dog got rid of the negative impact of its misdeeds in the previous birth by undertaking a long and devoted meditation.

There are quite a few references for the consecration of an idol of Sri Krishna at Udupi by Sri Madhwaru. A few of them are being submitted for the knowledge of the knowledgeable readers.
Sri Vadirajaru states in his Teerthaprabandha:

SUMMARY: Lord Sri Krishna left his pompous and glorious royal abode in Dwaraka, sacrificed the worship that the Gopikas were devoutly offering him every day and crossed the Ocean, which was the maternal home of his beloved wife Rama Devi, only to reach his most beloved devotee Sri Madhwacharyaru, who was then present in Rajatapeethapura or the present Udupi. Thus, Udupi has a special spiritual significance.

SUMMARY: Oh renowned Rupyapeethapura, none of the innumerable holy places across India, which are shining like silver, have been able to match you; due to the presence of the idol of Lord Krishna, which has been worshipped by the lotus hands of Sri Madhwacharyaru, you have set aside the greatness of Mount Kailas, which is the holy abode of Lord Rudra.

Several years ago, a Kshatriya king called Ramabhoja was plowing a piece of land in the present day Udupi with a yoke. At that time, a king cobra came under the yoke and died suddenly. The king was highly worried as he thought that he had committed a serious crime by killing the cobra. Lord Parashurama then consoled the king by stating that the cobra that had died was in fact a demon, who was roaming about there in the form of a serpent and therefore there was no need for the king to be worried. The king was not fully satisfied with the explanation. As suggested by Lord Parashurama, the king got four silver Peethas or divine seats, installed them in four directions and consecrated four idols of serpent on each Peetha and worshipped them. Lord Parashurama later told that at the end of Yuga, he would himself manifest there and that the place be known as Rajatapeethapura, where Rajata means silver and Peetha is the spiritual seat.

SUMMARY: May Lord Sri Krishna, who is beholding in one hand a churner that viciously churns and eradicates the misfortune of all his devotees and is having a rope in another hand a rope to be used in the churning, who is the emblem of honor and adoration to Shivalli, a village where Lord Eshwara is living, and that Lord Krishna who acts like a servant with his devotees, be pleased with my prayers.
Lord Krishna consecrated by Sri Madhwacharyaru in Udupi is having a churner in his right hand and a rope that is used in churning in his left hand. The Churning by Lord Krishna is compared to the Churning of Karmas and the resultant butter is bestowing of boons by the Lord, who is always ready to relieve his devotees from all sorts of misfortune and hardships. With the arrival of Lord Krishna at Udupi, the silver lining and the shine that Kailas Parvat held due to the presence of Lord Eshwara there, has shifted to Udupi, says Sri Vadirajaru in this stanza.

SUMMARY: Being the Originator of Yugas, Sri Hari lives in all the Four Yugas (Kruta, Dwapara, Treta and Kali). He is the cause and consequences of all Dharma and Karma or the Culture, Spirituality and actions in these Yugas. He wears the forms, including that of Sri Vasudeva, and gets the names such as Yugadikrut, Yugapravartaka and so on and provides his devotees with wealth and prosperity.
The four forms of Sri Hari during the four Yugas are as follows: During Kruta, Sri Hari manifests in the form of Vasudeva; during Tretayuga, he is known as Sankarshana; during Dwapara, Sri Hari will be in the form of Pradyumna and during Kali Yuga, he manifests as Aniruddha. During all the four Yugas, he takes the respective form and is in charge of or the organizer and originator of penance, purity, kindness and truthfulness. These are the primary tenets of culture and Sri Hari ensures that the righteous do not face any hurdle in adopting and following these principles.
It is mentioned in Bhagavata and other holy texts that during Kruta, all the four principles of culture are intact and undisturbed. Subsequently, during Treta Yuga, any of the three principles are undisturbed and any one of these principles face extinction or at least recession. During Dwapara, two of the four principles remain unharmed and two suffer severe strain. During Kali Yuga, all the four principles are subject to extinction or eradication. Consequently, the righteous find it difficult to pay the oblations. The righteous either go with the time by adopting the Yuga Dharma of cheating, cruelty, bluffing and ignoring the established spiritual activities. People lose faith in Providence during Kali Yuga.
Yugadikrut and other names are among the names mentioned in Sri Vishnusahasranama.
“YugAdikrudyugAvartO naikamAyO mahAshanaha” { कीर्त्य युगादिकृद्युगावर्तॊ नैकमायॊ महाशनः}
DharmapraGhaTaka means giver of the positive fruits of adherence to Dharma or Culture.
“TAnAgi” means “on his own will and interest”. Sri Hari is self-driven. He does not need any external force to do what he wants to do. He never shuns or shrinks from his responsibilities. It is for the devotees and non-devotees to perform the ‘karma’ and leave everything to Sri Hari.
Sri Hari is in Narayana and other forms in the head, throat and other organs/

SUMMARY: May Goddess Durga, who has made Balahampa as her residence; who is wearing necklaces of diamond and garlands of flowers; who is very pure; whose eyes are frail but very bright and bursting out flakes of fire; who is beholding a trident that is symbolic of the God of Death Yamadharma to the demons; who crushed demon Mahishasura under her feet and killed him by piercing his body with the sharp trident and has been living from time immemorial in ever-shining Balahampa Kshetra as the eternally young Durga, be my power and strength.
Tungabhadra River was earlier known as Pampa River and hence the name Pampa Kshetra, according to a legend. Pampa is said to be the daughter of Lord Brahma. Pampa was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, who is the God of Destruction. Impressed by her staunch devotion, Lord Shiva offered to give her a boon and Pampa urged Lord Shiva to marry her. Lord Shiva agreed and married her. Since then, Lord Shiva came to be known as Pampapati.
According to mythology, Lord Shiva was doing penance on the Hemakuta Hill, which is in Hampi. As desired by gods and goddesses, Kama or Manmatha, the God of Love, tried to divert the attention of Lord Shiva from penance and meditation. But, Lord Shiva was enraged and burnt Manmatha with his furious third eye. However, he was pursued by the gods and goddesses to break penance and marry Pampa, who was the consort of Shiva in her previous birth and was then known as Sati. On the occasion of the marriage of Shiva with Pampa, the gods and goddesses showered gold on the hill where Shiva had done the penance. Since then the hill came to be called as Hemakoota, where “Hema” means gold and “Koota” means heap. Pampa Sarovar is believed to the place where Shiva had done penance.

SRI #RAMACHARITRYA #MANJARI (ಶ್ರೀ #ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿರಚಿತ “#ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯ ಮಂಜರಿ”)

The impact of Rama Rajya/ರಾಮರಾಜ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ - VI
Birth of Lava and Kusha/ಸೀತಾರಾಮರಿಗೆ ಪುತ್ರೋತ್ಸವ (ಲವ-ಕುಶರ ಜನನ)
Srirama wished that the dynasty of the greatest king of Ikshwaku progressed and therefore ensured that Seetha Devi gave birth to two sons namely Kusha and Lava. Kusha was Indra and Lava was Fire God Agni. These two children read out the story of Srirama taught by Sri Valmeeki. Singing melodiously the story of Ramayana, which was in poetic form, Kusha and Lava impressed the saints, ascetics, Rishis and others.
The cream of Kshatriya Dharma
KAryE Saumitrim anumAnya – “PurajanapadarakShaNAdi viShayE SaumitrimanujnApya”
कार्यॆ सौमित्रिं अनुमान्य – “पुरजनपदरक्षणादि विषयॆ सौमित्रिमनुज्ञाप्य”| This means, Srirama ordered Lakshmana to take care of the security of citizens and countries.
Once, Lakshmana saluted Srirama and stood by his side, politely. Srirama told Lakshmana: “Dear brother, I will now let you know the duties and responsibilities of Kshatriyas. You must hear my words with attention and act accordingly. Think about the welfare of people within the city and outside. The positive energy earned through pious deeds of a king will be destroyed if he fails to enquire about the welfare of his citizens.
1.      Once upon a time, a quarrel broke out between two Brahmins over a cow and they went to the then king called seeking a solution. They waited for three days for the king to hear them. Since the king did not turn up even after three days, they cursed him and went away.
2.      Once, a king called Nimi was performing a sacrifice. He became drowsy while performing the sacrifice. Sage Vasishtha questioned him about the state of mind. But, because of drowsiness, the king did not hear it and therefore Vasishtha cursed him. This shows that a king should always be attentive, awake and cautious.
3.      Yayati had been barred by Shukracharya from having children from Sharmishthe and therefore Shukracharya cursed Yayati to become an aged man. Yayati had the capacity to curse Shukracharya too. But, he did not do so. Impressed by his silence, Shukracharya allowed Yayati to exchange his old age with the youth of another person, who was willing to sacrifice his youth. This indicates that even after cursing someone, Brahmins should not become angry. If they remain patient, they will be happy throughout their life.
This is the gist of the tenets to be followed by Kshatriyas. These lessons have special significance for persons like us. Young people take it for granted that the elderly are models and follow the elders. Therefore, being elderly, we should adhere to the principles of Kshatriya culture and ensure that the youth develop interest in following them.”
Lakshmana took charge of the securing of the people within the country and outside by using the four basic policies of Sama, Dana, Bheda and Danda or friendship, donation, division and punitive action, in accordance with the necessity and circumstances.
With the grace of Lord Srirama and by using his wisdom, Lakshmana was able to remove insanity from the universe and restored piety, culture, tradition and righteousness.
