SUMMARY: When the mankind was falling apart due to the darkness that had been cast on earth through ambiguous, paradoxical and illogical interpretation of scriptures, as the Sun of spiritual and philosophical (TatvajnAna) knowledge had set due to the fluctuation in the time-cycle, the forlorn and dejected Brahma and other deities surrendered unto the feet of Lord Mukunda.

The word VijnAna (the first part of the compound word VijnAnaBhAnumati with which the shloka begins) signifies Brahmasutra.

SUMMARY: Lord Narayana, who is known as Triyuga (Kruta, Treta and Dwapara), did not want to appear on Earth as an incarnation. He did not want to instruct Lord Brahma to accomplish the task because Brahma could not appear on Earth as an incarnation. Perceiving the fact that there was no other ‘Sarvajna’ (a person with all knowledge), who could possibly take up the task, he told with a smile on his face to Lord Vayu, the life-breath of the entire universe.

SUMMARY: Oh Sumukha! The spirituous, virtuous and pious people on earth have lost all hopes as they have not been able to find a way that would lead them to the ultimate realisation. Therefore, by assuming a different role, you should adorn the Earth and restore the happiness of those people by conclusively establishing my attributes and qualities.

Sumukha means a countenance that anyone very happy. It also indicates that the face of Lord Brahma is adorned with all divine and auspicious features.

The word ‘RUpAntarENa’ has been purposefully employed to indicate that Lord Hanuman is eternal and is still living on Earth and therefore the incarnation of Lord Vayu as Sri Madhwacharya is in addition to the incarnation as Lord Maruti.
